Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

Legacy Private Limited t/a The Place Care is committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050 in line with UK Government targets and Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 06/21.

We recognise our responsibility to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our operations and supply chains and are committed to implementing measurable and sustainable environmental improvements.

Emissions Reduction Targets

We have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

  • Reduce total emissions by 20% by 2030 (from 2024 baseline)
  • Reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2035
  • Achieve Net Zero by 2050

Progress against these targets will be reviewed annually.

Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been implemented:

Operational Efficiency

  • Transition to digital care management systems, reducing paper usage
  • Implementation of remote monitoring and scheduling systems to reduce travel

Travel and Transport

  • Route optimisation for care staff to reduce mileage
  • Encouraging use of public transport where feasible
  • Exploration of low-emission and electric vehicle options

 

Energy Management

  • Reduction in office energy consumption through efficient lighting and equipment
  • Staff awareness campaigns to promote energy-saving behaviours

Procurement and Supply Chain

  • Engaging suppliers to align with sustainable practices
  • Preference for environmentally responsible suppliers
  • Reduction of single-use materials where possible

Waste Management

  • Recycling initiatives across office and care operations
  • Reduction in clinical and non-clinical waste through better stock control

Future Initiatives

We plan to further reduce emissions through:

  • Transition to low or zero-emission vehicles
  • Formal supplier sustainability assessments
  • Carbon literacy training for staff and management
  • Implementation of a formal Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Exploration of carbon offsetting for residual emissions

Environmental Management in Contract Delivery

When delivering services under contract, The Place Care will:

  • Minimise unnecessary travel through efficient rota planning
  • Use digital systems to reduce administrative waste
  • Promote environmentally responsible behaviours among staff
  • Ensure suppliers and partners adhere to sustainability principles
  • Monitor environmental performance as part of contract governance

Governance and Accountability

Responsibility for carbon reduction sits with senior leadership, led by the Director/Registered Manager. Progress is monitored through internal audits, performance reviews, and annual reporting.

Declaration and Sign-Off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard and use the appropriate Government emission conversion factors.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors.
